Phone NumberEmail Address

Princeton has received Federal Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant funding through the New Jersey Department of Transportation to facilitate improvements to the pedestrian and vehicular traffic signals at Harrison Street, North intersections with Hamilton Avenue and Franklin Avenue.

·
SRTS’s vision is to develop a culture and environment where walking and bicycling to school is safer, more appealing and a part of daily life for students throughout New Jersey.  Princeton seeks to promote this vision amongst Princeton school children.

·
Install new above-ground signal equipment in accordance with NJDOT, MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices), and PROWAG (Public Rights of Way Accessibility Guide) standards.

·
Install new pedestrian pushbuttons, countdown heads and audible alerts.

·
Install emergency preemption equipment to grant responding emergency vehicles the right away, thus improving response times and traffic safety.

·
Remove existing signal equipment.

·
Modify all curb ramps within the project limits to meet accessibility standards.

·
Mill and pave each intersection roadway surface and reapply new traffic markings and lines.

Final design is completed and construction is anticipated to begin in 2019, pending the acquisition of permanent easements at the Hamilton Avenue intersection.
