The Princeton Neighborhood Zoning Initiative is a community planning effort created in response to concerns among many residents about the impacts of home development activities on the character of their neighborhoods.  The goal of this initiative is to create strategies, policies, guidelines, and regulations that will shape future home development activities so their outcomes better complement the traditional character and form of Princeton’s residential neighborhoods and streets.

On April 11, 2018 the Neighborhood Zoning Initiative, an ad hoc committee of Princeton, will host a Workshop for local architects, builders and attorneys from 4:00 to 5:30 PM and host a Public Meeting from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  At these sessions, representatives from LRK will present recommendations for potential zoning repairs addressing many of the issues identified in the Neighborhood Character and Zoning Initiative Progress Report dated June 2017.  Princeton is providing a venue for public participation and discussion of the potential amendments to existing ordinances and some new ordinances that have been prepared in response to the 2017 report.

The following provisions will be reviewed and discussed at the Workshop and Public Meeting:

  • Lot Coverage
  • Height of Structure Definition
  • Height to Setback Ratio
  • House Orientation and Massing
  • Floor Area Ratio (FAR) and Impervious Coverage Exemptions
  • Permitted     Projections
  • Accessory Structures
  • Grading
  • Landscaping
