Event Information

Banana peels, pizza crust, and strawberry tops, oh my! Our food waste actually accounts for one-fourth of the landfill. But don’t despair; come learn several different ways that you can turn your food scraps into a rich, organic fertilizer for your lawn.

With a backyard compost bin, the right kind of worms, or even a few hens, you can watch your food scraps gain a new purpose and skip the landfill. Join us for this family-friendly and engaging event!

Our three speakers will share tips and techniques for each of the following topics:

  • Backyard Composting: Carrie Dyckman, Compost Enthusiast and Consultant
  • Vermicomposting: Pramod Raju, Environmental Entrepreneur & Activist
  • Backyard Hens: Joseph Heckman, Ph.D. Professor of Soil Science, Rutgers University

This program was brought to you by the Princeton Environmental Commission, in partnership with Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS), Sustainable Princeton, and the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey(NOFA-NJ).
