NJAW Projects - Wheatsheaf, Randall and Monroe

Current Status

Construction began on March 14, 2022.  The water main of Wheatsheaf Lane and Monroe Lane is complete and water sampling/testing is in progress. Wheatsheaf service replacements are scheduled to begin on or about April 13, 2022.  The water main replacement on Randall  Road has started and the approximate finish date is April 8, 2022.

Project Overview

As part of the New Jersey American Water Company's 2022 Capital Improvement Program, NJAW's contractor CRJ Contracting Corporation  Inc. will be replacing water mains and individual service laterals, to the curb line / edge of pavement, in the municipal right of way on the following streets:

  1. Wheatsheaf Lane  - 1,100 LF of water main and 25 service transfers
  2. Randall Road – 1,020 LF of water main (From Grover Avenue to Monroe Lane) and 16 service transfers
  3. Monroe Lane – 900 LF of water main and 9 service transfers

The existing water mains on the above mentioned streets are near the end of their lifecycle.  Old unlined cast iron water mains build up deposits that lead to discoloration, taste and odor issues and reduced fire flows to fire hydrants.  These older pipes tend to fail, causing water main breaks.  In order for NJAW to provide high quality, reliable water service, the contractor will be:

  • Replacing the water main in the street with new 8" ductile iron cement lined water main
  • Replace all existing fire hydrants and adding additional hydrants if requested by the Fire Marshal
  • Replace individual house service laterals to the curb line / edge of pavement
  • Install water meter chambers near the curb line / edge of pavement where applicable for each residence
  • Restore all disturbed area including roadway resurfacing

A neighborhood pre-construction meeting occurred on March 7, 2022.
