In 2018, the Princeton Bicycle Advisory Committee conducted a short experiment to test bike lanes on Hamilton - Wiggins between Sylvia Beach Way and Walnut Lane. As a part of a multi-modal corridor study covering a distance of 1.1 miles from Bayard Lane/U.S. Route 206 to North Harrison Street, WSP USA (Princeton's consultant) is examining traffic, safety, and mobility issues within the corridor, and potential improvements including pedestrian and school crossings, intersection improvements, traffic calming, on-street parking, and bicycle facilities.
In 2019 stakeholder meetings were conducted with advocates, businesses, and corridor residents to understand all of the uses and needs of the corridor. The final study report is available in the Documents section below. Princeton Council accepted the report at its January 26, 2021 meeting, with a preference for bike facility alternative 2 (on-road bike lanes).
As of July 2021, the project is on hold. The Permit Parking Task Force is investigating whether on-street parking can be removed.
